Lure coursing event to be held this weekend on Puget Island

The hounds will be running this weekend, October 2-3, at Misty River Plantation, 117 Cross Dike Road on Puget Island. The event is sanctioned by the American Kennel Club (AKC), sponsored by the Willamette Basenji Club, and is open to all dogs – purebred, mixed breed, registered or unregistered. Dogs will participate in two types of lure coursing: a 1000 yard random course, and a 100 yard dash. The latter is a timed event, and the dog will get a certificate showing his speed in MPH. Entry details can be found at the Willamette Valley Basenji Club website.

Running starts at 9 a.m. each day and runs to completion. Historically there have been over 250 courses run each day, so quitting time is generally late afternoon. Parking for participants is on the coursing field in back; spectators park off the driveway in front. Limited handicapped parking and restrooms are available in back. Leashed dogs are welcome as spectators.
