October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

September 30, 2021

October is Domestic Violence Awareness and Action Month. The Charlotte House, a program of St James Family Center, invites all of Wahkiakum County to show support to victims and survivors of domestic violence. This year’s theme is “The Power of Connection.” Many victims and survivors of domestic violence have little to no connection with their friends, their family, or their community.

Around town, you may notice an abundance of purple. There are purple lights in storefront windows, purple ribbons on light poles, flyers around town, stickers on coffee sleeves, and table tents in restaurants. You may even notice people wearing purple on Thursday, October 21. The abundance of purple is to show victims and survivors that Wahkiakum County supports them.

The Charlotte House offers free confidential services to victims and survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault. They support those from all walks of life. If you feel you need to speak with someone, contact them at (360) 795-6400 or 1 (866) 795-9381.
