Covid-19 update

County cases reach 240

Four more Wahkiakum County residents tested positive for covid-19 in the last week, bringing the cumulative total to 240, with 31 of those cases considered potentially active.

The Washington Department of Health is reporting that 14 people in the county have been hospitalized since the pandemic began, and five deaths have been attributed to covid-19.

There have been 30 more doses of the vaccine administered to county residents in the past week. The percentage of the entire population in the county to be fully vaccinated stands at 47.3 percent. Including the portion of the population that is aged 12 and up, 52.5 percent of the county is fully vaccinated, much lower than the state’s rate, which is at 71.4 percent.

Cases in the counties are decreasing but they are still at a pretty high level, Wahkiakum Health and Human Services Director Chris Bischoff said on Tuesday.

He said that the Food and Drug Administration is considering multiple matters surrounding vaccines right now, including boosters for Moderna and Johnson and Johnson, and a Pfizer vaccine for children age 5 to 11.
