Unforced errors hurt Lady Mules in net play

Another loss on Monday brought the Wahkiakum Mules volleyball team to an overall record of 5-9, and 5-4 in league play. The team hosts Toledo on Wednesday for their final match of the regular season and district play begins on Saturday.

The Lady Mules traveled to Toutle Lake on Monday and lost to the Ducks in three sets, 25-21, 25-11, and 25-22.

“Unforced errors were our big foe,” Coach Kayli Hurley said. “Couple that with Toutle’s scrappy defense and it’s hard to make up for that many unforced errors.”

Setter Courtney Carlson had 14 assists, six kills, and six digs. Emmie Niemela, Megan Leitz, and Miya Kerstetter had four kills apiece. Leitz was 100 percent from the service line, and Kerstetter also had five digs. Libero Reigha Niemeyer had 22 digs, and Hurley praised her for “amazing serve receive.” Kamryn Watkins had three aces, and Hurley had some good words for Bailey McKinley, who “showed growth at the net.”
