SHIBA welcomes AAADSW as new local SHIBA program

As of Jan. 1, 2022, the Area Agency on Aging & Disabilities of Southwest Washington (AAADSW) is the new Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) sponsor for Clark, Cowlitz, Skamania and Wahkiakum counties. AAADSW replaces the previous SHIBA sponsor, Lower Columbia Community Action Program.

A public service offered by the Washington state Office of Insurance Commissioner, SHIBA volunteers serve people of all ages. Over 200 trained volunteers statewide provide free, impartial and confidential Medicare counseling and education to people in their communities about health plans, prescription drug access, fraud and abuse, and more.

“At the Area Agency on Aging & Disabilities, we believe every adult deserves to live with dignity,” said AAADSW Executive Director Mike Reardon. “We connect seniors, adults with disabilities and family caregivers to a full range of community resources designed to offer choice, improve quality of life and respect independence. From our Aging and Disability Resource Network, Family Caregiver Support Program, Senior Transportation Services, and Health and Wellness Programs, we are committed to helping our community’s adults live and age well.”

AAADSW is located at 201 NE 73rd Street, Vancouver, WA 98665.

Note: For the safety of clients, volunteers and staff during the pandemic, SHIBA and AAADSW will counsel people one-on-one over the phone or online via email or Zoom. There will be no in-person appointments. To contact the program directly call 360-759-4676.
