Lady Comets win 1, lose 2 at state

The Naselle girls basketball team came home from the State 1B tournament in Spokane without a trophy, but not without a fight.

They advanced with a win in the opening round of games last Wednesday, beating Wellpinit 53-45.

Lauren Katyryniuk led the Comets with 22 points. Brynn Tarabochia added 15 points and four steals. Kaylin Shrives had 11 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Morgan Reitz scored four points and pulled down 10 boards. Peyton Dalton had one point.

Marissa Seylor had 19 points for Wellpinit.

The next day, Naselle lost 47-26 in the quarterfinals to Mount Vernon.

Dalton had eight points. Katyryniuk added seven points. Echo Cenci scored six points and had eight rebounds. Shrives had three points. Tarabochia had two points and seven rebounds.

The Mossyrock defense was all over Comet Kaylin Shrives.

Ruthie Rozema led the Hurricanes with 15 points.

On Friday, the season ended for the Lady Comets with a 46-12 loss to Mossyrock.

Reitz and Tarabochia had three points apiece, and Cenci, Katyryniuk, and Shrives had two points each. Shrives had nine rebounds. The team shot 11.6 percent from two point range, and 7.7 percent from three point range. They were 12.5 percent from the free throw line.

Payton Torrev led the Vikings with 25 points.

The Naselle girls were 6-5 in league this season, and 16-12 overall. They took first in district.
