Last Thursday, Wahkiakum Mules and Naselle Comets athletes joined several other track and field teams at a league meet in Ocosta.

Naselle took first in boys’ competition with 149 points. The Mule boys took sixth place with 49 points. Wahkiakum took sixth place with 21 points for the girls, while the Comets took seventh with six points.

Reporting top six finishers:

For the Naselle boys,

Trenton Stephens won the javelin event with a throw of 145-06. He also won the high jump, clearing 6 feet. He took second in the 400 meters with a time of 55.87, and second place in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 46.77.

Tyler Kirkman won the discus event with a throw of 114-06 and tied for fourth in the shot put with a 34-06. He also placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 122-02.


Jayden Ding placed fourth in triple jump with a leap of 34-07.5. He also tied for fifth in the pole vault, clearing 9-06 and took sixth place in the 200 meters with a time of 26.69.

Derek Suomela took second in the high jump, clearing 6 feet. He took third place in the 400 meters with a time of 57.8 and third place in the triple jump with a leap of 35-06.

Jacob Pakenen placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:34:05 and tied for fifth in the pole vault, clearing 9-06.

Riley Thorsen tied for fourth in the shot put with a toss of 34-06 and placed sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.76.


Malcolm Schell took sixth place in the 400 meters with a time of 1:04.21.

Elmer Toftemark finished in fourth place in the discus with a throw of 105.

Brayden Colombo took second place in the javelin with a throw of 142-08 and fifth in discus with a throw of 104-10.5.

Naselle teams took first and third place in the 4x100 relay. Ding, Schell, Brandon Kincaid, and Suomela placed first with a time of 50.2. Tyler Kirkman, Thorsen, Arvid Ross, and Elmer Toftemark took third with a time of 51.92.

For the Mule boys, Landon Nielsen threw 34-11 feet in the shot put for third place, placed third in the javelin with a throw of 134-05, took fourth place in the 100 meters with a time of 12.24 and finished in fifth place in the high jump, clearing 5-08.

Nathan Garrett took third in the 3200 meters with a time of 12:38.8 and fourth in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:50.32.

Daniel Spisla-Hongel placed fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:41.22.

Jeremyah Johnson placed sixth in shot put with 32-05.

Wayne Harrison took fourth in javelin with a throw of 124-02.

Mason Waldeck took sixth place in the long jump with a leap of 14-08.75.

For the Lady Mules, Megan Leitz took second place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:51.7.

Lilian Hale placed fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with a 20.5. She also took fifth place in the long jump with a leap of 12-08 and sixth place in the shot put with a throw of 25-08.

For the Naselle girls, Maggie Creech Ware of Naselle took sixth place in the pole vault, clearing 5-06.

The Mules and Comets return to competition after spring break, April 4-8.
