CAT event to be held on Puget Island this weekend

The hounds will be running this weekend at Misty Rivers Plantation, 117 Cross Dike Road on Puget Island. The event is an AKC sanctioned Coursing Aptitude Trial (CAT) sponsored by the Willamette Valley Basenji Club. Dogs entering will face two challenges: In the regular CAT, they will chase the lure in a 1000-yard random course around the 10-acre field, and in the Fast CAT they will run a timed 100-yard dash, and receive a certificate recording their speed in MPH. Both types of run will be offered in the morning and again in the afternoon on both Saturday and Sunday.

The event is open to all dogs of all breeds or mixed breeds. Non-AKC registered dogs can apply for a PAL (Purebred Alternative Listing). Running will start at 9 a.m. each day and will proceed until completion with a short lunch break. Historically that's been about 200 runs per day.

The public is invited to attend. Parking is available in the front yard for spectators; participants may park in back on the coursing field. Well-leashed dogs are welcome as spectators. Limited handicapped parking and restrooms are available in the back.
