To The Eagle:

It is sad to see American citizens ignoring history and willingly give up their constitutional rights for the perceived illusion of security.

Last week in this column was the statement “In my opinion, public disarmament is this nation’s best hope of avoiding our mutually assured destruction.”

Public disarmament is and has been the tool of tyrants for many years:

In 1911 Turkey disarmed its citizens, then murdered 1.5 million Armenians. In 1929 Russia disarmed its citizens, and then murdered 20 million Russians. In 1935 China disarmed its citizens, and then murdered 20 million Chinese. In 1938 Germany disarmed its citizens, and then murdered 16 million Jews. In 1956 Cambodia disarmed its citizens, and then murdered 1 million people. In 1964 Guatemala disarmed its citizens, and then murdered 100,000 Mayan Indians. In 1970 Uganda disarmed its citizens, and then murdered 300,000 Christians.

Ahh but this could not happen in America you say…

The largest mass shooting in US history happened on December 29, 1890. When federal agents and members of the 7th Cavalry came to confiscate the firearms of the Sioux Indians “for their own safety and protection,” once the majority of the Sioux had peacefully turned in their firearms. The Calvary began shooting and slaughtered the entire camp. Two hundred of the 297 victims were women and children.

The founders wrote the Bill of Rights to protect us from our government, and for good reason. History shows us power corrupts. The Second Amendment articulates Americans’ right not only to defend their lives, but also preserve their liberty. We can freely choose to stand with those founders and protect our rights, or we can give our rights away and become sheep to be led to the slaughter at their whim.
