Lady Mules win 1, lose 2 in volleyball

The Wahkiakum Mules lost two games and won one this week to bring their record to 2-2 in league and 5-7 overall.

The Lady Mules picked up a non-league game against Hudson Bay in Vancouver last Wednesday and lost in four sets, 25-23, 17-25, 27-29, 25-27.

Despite the loss, the Lady Mules fought hard and as Coach Kayli Hurley pointed out, all the games, except for one, “were all down to the wire.”

“Both teams worked themselves into and out of deficits all night long,” Hurley said.

Miya Kerstetter had 12 kills and four digs, and Genevieve Fleming added four kills and one stuff block. Amirah Abdul Kariem picked up nine digs, while Reigha Niemeyer contributed seven kills, eight digs, and 100% serving.

On Thursday, Wahkiakum hosted Rainier and lost in four sets, 18-25, 13-25, 25-17, and 24-26

“We started super slow tonight and took two full sets to be in the game,” Coach Hurley said.

Standouts for the night included Helen Lewis who had seven kills, one stuff block, and served three aces, and Niemeyer with 10 kills and six digs. Kerstetter had six kills and five digs and Abdul Kariem had five kills and 100% serving.

“Ava Thomas pitched in a kill and had a great positive attitude,” Hurley added.

On Tuesday, the team traveled to Toledo and won in three sets, 26-24, 25-18, and 25-18.

Wahkiakum hosts Toutle Lake tonight (Thursday) and Adna on Tuesday.
