Fox News seized occasion to cultivate disinformation

February 2, 2023

To The Eagle:

On Jan. 9th the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, studying the possible effects indoor gas cooking stoves might be having on air quality and health in homes, suggested that “stricter regulation of new gas stoves” might be in order.

Immediately, gas stoves became the new hot button issue in the culture war. Fox News fabulist provocateur, Sean Hannity, seized the occasion to cultivate disinformation and anger, announcing "Not only is Biden coming for your paycheck, he is coming for your stove. You heard me right. The White House is now attempting to ban all gas ovens and burners."

It’s a classic example of the well developed coordination between hyper-partisan media outlets and the Republican’s Conservative Political Action Coalition doing what they do best: ‘cherry picking’ an issue, misrepresenting it to incite extreme reactions, and then stage-managing the outrage they’ve ignited.

Manufactured outrage is the smoke screen behind which conservative GOP lawmakers hide as they reflexively legislate against ‘woke’ issues. Of those legislators who were surveyed about their positions on ‘woke’ hot button controversies, many couldn’t define, much less explain, what ‘woke’ even means.

That being the case, it’s my opinion that many MAGA legislators, politicians and their minions have become what the Cold War Communist propaganda mill referred to as “useful idiots.”

Such knee-jerk sycophants can be relied upon to mindlessly support any ongoing inflammatory assaults instigated by devious, ruthless conservative political arsonists- against women’s reproductive rights, gender healthcare, voters rights, public schools, libraries, civil rights and the factual history of this country.

“There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” There is also more to human dignity and freedom than has been enumerated in this nation’s Constitution.
