Coach Garrett is retiring from Mule girls basketball

The Wahkiakum Mules girls basketball team ended their season last week, but it shouldn’t go without comment from their coach, Rob Garrett, who is retiring from the role after this season.

“I was happy we were able to complete the full season and although it wasn’t what we ultimately wanted, I thought it was impressive we made it where we did with the numbers we had,” Garrett said. “Miya (Kerstetter) and Reigha (Niemeyer) certainly led the way for us this year. There were a lot of girls that played their roles well and helped us get to where we did. Unfortunately we didn’t have the fire power we needed this year to make one more run at state.”

“It’s been a great overall experience,” Garrett said of coaching the girls teams for the past decade. “I learned a ton along the way and made some great memories as well as some great friends. I’ve been blessed to coach a lot of talent and am grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given.”

It was the final season for seniors Kerstetter, Niemeyer, and Selena Salas, who joined the program this year.
