Last week, Wahkiakum Mule baseball player Tanner Collupy was selected as a WIAA Athlete of the Week.

The senior was honored by the WIAA after he pitched a complete six inning game during a double header at Morton/White Pass on March 20th. Collupy struck out 12 batters and only gave up three hits and one walk in the 7-0 shutout victory. On offense, he went 1-for-1 with three RBIs and two walks.

Collupy hit a line drive that became an inside-the-park home run during the fourth inning of the second game to give the Mules an 8-7 lead against MWP. The Mules won the nightcap 9-7.

"Tanner has been a workhorse for us through the years," Coach Garrett Radcliffe said. "Currently a senior, Tanner has played football, basketball, and baseball all four years. He earned second team All-League honors last season and is looking to build off that for this season. He's not only our ace pitcher, but the captain of our team. A great leader, he always keeps teammates accountable and passes knowledge and mentorship onto our younger players everyday. He's currently leading our team in home runs on offense and leading the team in strikeouts, innings pitched, and wins as a pitcher."

According to Garrett, Collupy is exploring his options for his future, including intercollegiate baseball or attending a lineman academy, hoping one day to work for a utility.

"Nothing but great things to say about Tanner," Radcliffe said. "Definitely a source of pride for me as a coach to see any of my athletes succeed and get recognized for it."
