SOGGY HOLIDAY--As the atmospheric river made its way to the area on Sunday, we definitely saw a super soggy Easter, so it’s a good thing most Easter Egg Hunts were done on Saturday around here so as not to be totally drenched; whew!

According to the forecast, it looks to be a wet start to the week but we’re due for some dry days by mid-week and even a dry weekend. I won’t hold my breath as that keeps changing but I sure hope it’s true. I’m also hoping the “slight chance of flooding” is non-existent but just in case, we’re all set here at our house with the staples, so we’ll be able to handle whatever shows up. But let’s all think sunshine!

SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from Aug. 13-19 are Logan Britt, Kael McKinley, Brent Mahitka, Bryan Ledtke, Dan Keilwitz, Mike Brown, Sophia McKinley, Stephanie Olsen, Lyle Nielson, Sean Miller, Anver Paulsen, Cody Peterson, Janine Helms, Richard Wilkins, Bennett Everman, Shiloh Hoven, Karinda Cooper, Reggie Bonny, Tawnya Paine, Darci Francis, Misty Shook, Sienna Myers, Carolyn Pedersen, great grandson, Kaiden Good and 67er Sherrolin Mace Powell.

Those celebrating anniversaries this coming week are Mr. and Mrs. Greg Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Tim Parker, Annie and Ed Watters, Mr. and Mrs. Chad Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Robinson and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Walker. May you all have splendid celebrations this coming week!

BIRTHDAY BASH--We hope you’ve already made your required reservations for the Chinese Food Buffet from (5-7) this Saturday evening at the Duck Inn, as it will also be a birthday celebration of Logan Britt and Stephanie Olsen, so it will be great fun celebrating these two fantastic people. With music being provided from 7 to 10 by the awesome “King Brothers” (a favorite band of Stephanie’s) it should definitely be a fun time for all!

FOLLOWING WEEKEND--April 22 appears to be a very busy day, so get ready. First off, if you need your car washed, then head to the Bank of the Pacific and let the Mecha Mules Robotic team take care of that for you between Noon and 5 p.m. This is a fundraiser to help them go back East, so it’s a very worthwhile cause for these amazingly talented kids!

If you love plants and want to go and check out the new Puget Island Gardens business, they will hold their Grand Opening on April 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with their ribbon cutting at noon. With plans for a food truck and raffles and music too, it sounds like their opening will be very grand indeed! For more info, call 206-390-4980.

For those of you who have made reservations for the Spring Tea being held at the Redmen Hall/Central School, you’ll want to remember to show up for that by 1 p.m. It’s their first tea hosted by Linda Elliott and hopefully it is a big success.

Next on the list of things to do that day is the “Bigfoot Boogie” event, which also takes place in Skamokawa at the Skamokawa Grange Hall from 3 to 4:30 p.m. This is where you get to boogie to some music and get in a bit of exercise while having a little fun. There is a fee involved. For more info and to confirm this is still happening, contact althea.pnw@gmail.com.

Later that evening, you can head back to the Skamokawa Grange Hall for a “Spring Social” which involves eating some BBQ Tri-Tip sandwiches and dancing! The poster says “learn how to square dance,” so I guess they’ll teach you on the spot! The doors open at 6 p.m., with dancing scheduled from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

ACCEPTING DONATIONS--Time is flying by, so it should come as no surprise that some folks are thinking of and planning for certain events now, and one of those is the big PIGYS event. That stands for “Puget Island Garage and Yard Sale” and it will take place June 23-25. For all of you newer folks, this is a time when Puget islanders will sign up to get their houses listed on a map that coordinator Sandie York puts together, and it will steer folks to their houses so they can sell all that stuff that they just don’t need anymore. It’s also a great time for some groups and organizations to have a fundraiser, and one of those groups is the Puget Island Fire Department's Auxiliary. They raise money for various things to help our community, so they’d like you to start your spring cleaning a little early and donate your good, used items. It’s a win, win, with your house or garage having a bit more space and they get to raise some money to help others. Anyway, if you have things to donate and want them out of your hair right now, just give one of the gals a call and they can either meet you at the P.I. Fire Hall or they can arrange for things to be picked up if need be. So, if you can help out, give Sherrill a call at 360-951-3987 or Liz at 360-200-2247.

MAY DOINGS--I won’t elaborate this week but next month there will be plenty to do, which includes a new Watercolors exhibit at Redmen Hall beginning on May 12; the 4-H Great Whitetail Run, May 20; the first Farmers Market at the fairgrounds May 20; the opening of the Farmers Market at the Elochoman Slough Marina on May 26 and the American Legion Breakfast on May 27 in Rosburg, Vets eat free! When you add Mother’s Day on May 14, along with a variety of other things going on around the area, there’s plenty of things to check out. And now that you’ve been made aware of it, you’ve got a whole month to plan on that special treat for Mom!

GREAT SIGHTING--Kyndal Ray, along with his cart, was spotted as he went through Skamokawa this past Sunday and that was pretty neat as Kyndal is getting a lot of attention these days for something he is close to accomplishing, and that’s walking across the United States! That’s pretty wild, right? While he’s been traveling, he’s getting pretty famous as he is very close to completing his mission: “Walk Across America for Mental Health Awareness, Recovery and Habit 365.” As of his sighting Sunday by Rosalie Webb, he posted that he has been drug free for 47 months, and he’s walked 3,240 miles, having started on the East Coast, and he was on day 359 of his journey. He also posted from Naselle and said that in three more days he would have completed his walk across America; truly awesome! We want to congratulate him for taking on this worthwhile cause and for his determination to make this trek across the states on foot. Kudos to you Kyndal Ray, you are truly an inspiration!
