Port 2 board plans cooperation with fair

Wahkiakum County Port 2 Board of Commissioners got a visit from fair staff at their meeting on Tuesday, where they talked about improving communication and supporting each other during events and more, from posting signage to providing parking space.

“We have resources here, you have resources there, we need to talk a lot more, we need to work together,” Commissioner Allen Bennett said. “We are more than happy to help.”

New carpet will be installed in the office building at Vista Park, according to Assistant Port Manager Terina Davis. She also said the old office has been converted into a cabin and already has some bookings.

One port employee may get some added responsibilities and an opportunity for job growth as commissioners and managers discussed delegating project management for Svenson Park on Puget Island.

Manager Sam Shogren also said that he, along with Bennett, and Steve Carson of Skamokawa Internet, met with a representative from Congresswoman Marie Gluesenkamp Perez’s office about how Port 2 could bring economic opportunity to the community outside of what Vista Park already does.

Shogren added that he had a chance to travel to Washington DC in the near future and thought it might be a good opportunity to lobby on behalf of Port 2.

Commissioners were supportive.
