Seventeen Wahkiakum athletes headed to football camp last week to improve their game skills and get ready for the coming season.

The camp was held Thursday through Saturday, and hosted by Adna and South Bend Schools. The Mules slept in an Adna classroom at night and ran drills during the day. They scrimmaged with other teams and got to play a little 7 on 7, which was developed to help teams improve their passing game without the usual physical contact involved in football. Linemen participated in a Lineman Challenge which included pushing the shed and tire flips.

Ten schools participated in the camp this year, with Brewster traveling the farthest, according to Todd and Nicole Wilson.

"Our young team learned a lot and had a great time. We're t-minus 23 days to kicking off the 2023 season," Coach Ryan Lorenzo said on Tuesday.
