Mules take a drubbing despite strong offense

The Wahkiakum Mules football team took a big hit in a non-conference game on Friday with a 62-29 loss to the combined Raymond/South Bend Ravens team.

"Offense was spectacular," Coach Ryan Lorenzo said. "We took an early lead and we battled. We had a few mistakes but the offense coordinator fixed them as the game went on. Quarterback Zakk Carlson threw for 455 yards and added a bunch on the ground with his feet. Our skills guys were very impressive through the game. We lost that game because Raymond/South Bend was more physical than we were. They're tough to defend. RSB has a great football team and will go far this season."

Jacob Johnson scored on a 55 yard reception from Carlson in the first quarter, and Nathan Garrett scored the extra point. Garrett later added a field goal for three more. Kyler Sause scored on a 67 yard reception from Carlson in the second quarter; the attempt for the extra point was no good. Sause scored a second time on a 16 yard reception from Carlson, with an extra point from Garrett.

In the third quarter, Grant Wilson scored on an 85 yard reception from Carlson. The Mules tried to add two more points but failed.

Carlson finished 30 of 52 for 455 yards and rushed for 98 yards. Grant Wilson had nine tackles, and Jacob Johnson and Carlson added six apiece. Garrett had five.

Offensive standouts included the entire offensive line, Zakk Carlson, Wilson, Sause, Johnson, and Cooper Carlson. Defensive standouts included Wilson, Zakk Carlson, and Johnson.

"Hopefully we can fix the physicality this week because we are going to need it for the number four team, Pe Ell/Willapa Valley," Lorenzo said.
