The Wahkiakum Mules football team won for the second week in a row, beating Ilwaco on Friday 33-24. This week they are preparing for homecoming and an eight man game against North Beach.

"[Our] athletes played really well tonight," Coach Ryan Lorenzo said. "They all played well in their different areas. We definitely have some stuff to work on."

"Ilwaco was really physical," he added. "That is something we have struggled with in the past. [They] had a couple of really athletic kids that were giving us some trouble, but the team responded well to the challenges and kept pushing forward."

Jacob Johnson scored a touchdown on a 25 yard pass from quarterback Zakkary Carlson in the second quarter and Grant Wilson made it eight with a two point conversion. Wilson scored the Mules second touchdown with a 95 yard pass from Carlson, and Unai Perez Martin kicked for the extra point.

In the third quarter, Carlson took the ball into the end zone and a Perez Martin kick made it 22-16. Wilson scored again on a 32 yard pass from Carlson, and a Parker Leitz to Carlson combo earned the Mules two more points.

In the fourth quarter, Perez Martin scored the Mules' final three points.

Carlson completed 10 of 32 passes for a total of 174 yards and three touchdowns. He led rushing with 162 yards on 18 attempts. On defense, he had five tackles and five assists.

Wilson gained 127 yards, receiving twice. On defense he had two tackles, six assists, and one sack. Filip Tesar had four tackles and eight assists.

Lorenzo said the Mules will spend the week preparing for the Homecoming game, against North Beach, kicking off at 7 p.m. on Friday.

The Homecoming Queen will be announced after the Homecoming Court is introduced at half-time. This years court includes freshman princess Samantha Dela Cruz and escort Hank Wilson; sophomore princess Haileeahna Nielsen and escort Parker Leitz; junior princess Alaina Nakonsky and escort Mason Curl. Senior princesses vying for Homecoming Queen are Klauvinia Cernal, with escort Grant Wilson; Amira Abdul-Kariem, with escort Zakk Carlson; and Lana Goff, with escort Unai Perez Martin.
