Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the last week, including:
August 5 10:53 a.m. The district four fire chief let the Sheriff’s office know that he spoke with people at Wage’s swimming hole who were cooking over a campfire. 11:19 a.m. A Elochoman Valley homeowner spoke to the Sheriff’s department about trespassing and harassment by their neighbors. Deputies told the person it was a civil matter and let them know how to proceed with the courts. 6:52 p.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to a Puget Island address where an elderly person had fallen. 6:54 p.m. A caller at the Elochoman Slough marina reported threats and verbal abuse from another person at the marina. Deputies spoke to the marina manager who said that there had been several incidents with the person. The manager said that they would ask the person to leave in the morning.
August 6 4:43 p.m. A Puget Island caller reported a dead deer on Welcome Slough road. 5:16 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported a patient at the Cathlamet Clinic to the hospital. 11:18 p.m. A motorist west of county line park reported a tree down blocking both lanes of SR4. Deputies on the scene reported that a citizen with a chainsaw had already cleared the tree. The incident was referred to the department of transportation for clean up.
August 7 8:38 A caller who had salvaged a boat from the Cowlitz river called the Sheriff's office to see if it had been stolen. 9:03 p.m. A motorist west of Cathlamet reported almost hitting a cow on SR4. A nearby landowner checked their herd but did not find a missing cow. 4:11 p.m. A westend caller reported that someone on a bike had stayed the night at the Rosburg cemetery and that the next day flowers were missing from their sons grave.
August 8 9:59 a.m. A complaint came in from the Elochoman Slough marina about a person threatening their spouse, themselves and a friend. 10:35 a.m. A Skamokawa couple reported being chased by a neighbors dog. Sheriff’s deputies contacted the dog owner and informed them of the ordinance which protects residents from aggressive dogs. 10:45 p.m. An Elochoman Valley homeowner reported seeing a prowler on their security camera.
August 9 2:36 p.m. A request to remove an abandoned vehicle was called in by a Skamokawa caller. Sheriff’s deputies attempted to contact the owner of the vehicle but were unsuccessful. 3:53 p.m. A dead deer was reported on Elochoman Valley road. 6:24 p.m. A motorist west of Cathlamet requested assistance after locking their key in their car.
August 10 11:29 a.m. Teachers of a hunter education course notified the Sheriff’s department that would be training with firearms at the Norse Hall on Puget Island. 2:15 p.m. A elderly person was found passed out on the beach at Vista park. A later caller reported that the person was conscious and breathing. 2:47 p.m. A caller reported a vehicle parked with multiple doors open on the wildlife refuge in Skamokawa. Sheriff’s deputies spoke with the person who said that they were resting after returning from fishing.
August 11 5:52 a.m. A motorist just east of Cathlamet reported loose rocks on SR4. Deputies reported back that the owner of the rock pit was using equipment to clear the road.
