Sheriff's Report

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the last week, including:

August 30 10:18 a.m. A resident of Rangila road called in a report of an abandoned vehicle. 1:27 p.m. A Puget Island resident who injured their back while cleaning their fish tank requested assistance from Cathlamet emergency services. 7:13 p.m. A caller in Grays River reported a person lurking in the area. 9:23 p.m. A resident east of Cathlamet reported a person in the blackberry bushes on their property. The person told the homeowner that they were homeless and got lost.

October 1 6:36 a.m. A driver reported an accident and hand and shoulder injuries after falling asleep while driving. Cathlamet Emergency Services and the District 4 fire department responded to the scene where the drivers vehicle was found upside down in the ditch. 10:28 p.m. A caller reported a possible intoxicated driver had arrived at their apartment building. An individual was taken into custody at the scene.

October 2 2:23 a.m. A tree was reported down west of the Rosburg store. 11:59 a.m. Two goats were reported loose on Altoona Pillar Rock Road. 4:22 p.m. An erratic driver was reported west of Nassa point.

October 3 9:15 a.m. A commercial vehicle was reported driving with equipment loose on their truck. The Washington State Patrol was notified and found the vehicle pulled over securing their load. 10:41 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an elderly person with a possible broken leg from a fall. 1:51 p.m. A Skamokawa homeowner reported an abandoned vehicle on their property. 5:31 p.m. A Puget Island caller reported an erratic driver on SR 409. 11:52 p.m. A welfare check was requested on a Cathlamet resident with health issues.

October 4 9:24 a.m. Basketball sized rocks were reported by a motorist on SR4 in the Abe Creek area. 1:08 p.m. Rocks were reported in the eastbound lane of SR4 near the end of the passing lane in the Flandersville area. 1:34 p.m. A person at a Cathlamet business was bit by a dog. The person was evaluated at a local hospital. 2:18 p.m. A person called the Sheriff’s department to report a lost phone on the Health and Human Services campus in Cathlamet. 3:25 p.m. Two dogs were reported in the road interfering with traffic west of County Line park. Several people were trying to catch the dogs. 5:43 p.m. A power line was reported down on Ingalls road. The caller said that a power pole was damaged by a vehicle. 7:05 p.m. A person reported seeing a vehicle in a Cathlamet parking lot hit another vehicle and drive away. The caller described the vehicles and the damage to both vehicles.

October 5 9:44 a.m. A complaint about three dogs running loose in the road was received from a Grays River homeowner. Sheriff’s deputies responded and found the dogs in a fenced enclosure. 5:44 p.m. A Cathlamet caller reported their neighbor was having a barbeque and burning paper products under a tree with a pile of wood nearby. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded and found the person burning their mail. 5:57 p.m. A car accident involving a deer was reported in Deep River. The Washington State Patrol was notified. 6:33 p.m. A Puget Island homeowner called dispatch to report that the political sign in their yard had been damaged. 6:38 p.m. An erratic driver was reported in the Nassa Point area. 8:49 p.m. A confused elderly person knocked on the door of a Cathlamet homeowner. The person seemed confused but refused a ride home from the homeowner. Deputies called a family friend who took the person home. 4:08 a.m. The Sheriff’s office was advised by the Cowlitz Sheriff’s department to be on the lookout for a vehicle which had been involved in a violent incident in Cowlitz County.

October 6 10:52 a.m. A dead deer was reported on Elochoman Valley road. Dispatch informed the person that the county road crew would not be able to respond until the next day. 10:25 p.m. A Puget Island caller reported seeing a spotlight and hearing gunshots.
