Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
The North Coast Chorale returns to The Venue at Little Island Creamery at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 8 with a special musical program including choral music by the contemporary Norwegian composer, Ola Gjeilo.
The North Coast Chorale last performed at Little Island Creamery in June and their performance was rewarded with enthusiastic rounds of applause. There is sure to be more this Sunday when folks will hear the 60-member North Coast Chorale perform the sublime music of Ola Gjeilo, as well as a lively selection of holiday favorites.
The featured piece, "The Dark Night of the Soul" is set to the text of a 450-year-old poem. Gjeilo's music is known for its evocative and lush harmonies that sound both ancient and contemporary. It is popular with choirs everywhere, as well as orchestras – and listeners.
Born in Norway, Gjeilo received his bachelor's degree in composition from the Royal College of Music in London. He came to the United States as a student at Julliard in New York City, where he received his master's degree, also in composition. He now resides in California.
The North Coast Chorale, a community-based choir from Astoria, is committed to the promotion of music education and community involvement. We are so glad they are returning to The Venue!
Tickets are $15 at the door, or on Eventbrite. Little Island Creamery is located at 448 E. Little Island Road, Cathlamet. The Venue is on the second level. An elevator is available for handicapped access.
