Eagle press change: paper delivery will likely be delayed

Next week, Eagle printing will move from Astoria to a facility in Lakewood, WA. This will delay when you receive your paper by a day.

We have printed with The Astorian since 2019, and they fit like a glove. Their print quality has been high, their staff have been friendly and helpful and we fit into their printing schedule well.

Right before Thanksgiving, Astorian staff were told their new owners had decided to close the press there and move all printing to a sister company in Lakewood, WA. This change took effect very quickly: by Christmas, all printing will have stopped at The Astorian. We empathize with their employees; some have been there 25 years.

For us, this will be a bumpy change. Under the new schedule, we need to have pages complete by Wednesday morning at 9 a.m., making it quite difficult to include coverage of events Tuesday evening. Furthermore, we won’t be able to get the papers to the post office until Thursday, delaying delivery for everyone by a day. I will work to improve this, but that’s where we are for now.

At this point, we are not changing our deadlines. In the future we may need to provide sufficient time for production.
