The Comets' girls team started the season hot, winning both non-league games ahead of their conference clash against Mary M. Knight on Dec. 10. Though the result of their game against Mary M. Knight is not known at the time of press, the highlight of Naselle's early season will be the rivalry game they won against Ilwaco High School on Dec. 9.
Facing off in front of Naselle's home crowd, the fiery Pacific County rivalry came down to the final minutes, with several lead changes taking place in the fourth before the Comets put the game to bed, winning 65-59. As is tradition, the winners of the game walked away with the Bear River Belt and bragging rights.
