Sheriff's Report

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the last week, including:

January 13 7:14 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a single vehicle accident on Elochoman valley road. No injuries were reported. 7:57 a.m. A motorist on Puget Island reported a person laying on the porch of a church. The caller did not stop to investigate their condition. 3:03 p.m. A caller on Puget Island reported an ATV in the middle of the road, without a driver. 4:18 p.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to a Cathlamet resident with abdominal pain. 6:00 p.m. A motorist reported a vehicle with flashing red lights on the side of the road at Alger creek. The Washington State Patrol was notified.

January 14 1:20 a.m. A motorist reported a vehicle speeding at Nassa point. 10:00 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to a resident with breathing problems. 11:34 a.m. A welfare check was requested on a Puget Island resident. Deputies were able to contact the individual. 2:34 p.m.

An Eden Valley homeowner reported that a portable storage unit was stolen from their property. 9:37 p.m. A Skamokawa homeowner reported that someone was trying to get into a shed on their property. Deputies responded but found the area secure.

January 15 10:14 a.m. A round bale of hay was reported blocking the west bound lane of SR4 West of Cathlamet. 11:04 a.m. A motorist near county line park said that they were being followed by another vehicle. The caller said that they would meet deputies at the courthouse. 11:26 a.m. A Cathlamet caller said that they could see smoke on Puget Island and were concerned that there might be a fire. 4:51 p.m. A homeowner east of Cathlamet reported a power outage. Dispatch contacted the Wahkiakum PUD who reported that the power was restored. 5:46 p.m. A Skamokawa caller reported that there were multiple people on their property. Sheriff’s deputies responded but found the property secure. 7:03 p.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to a Cathlamet resident with heart problems. The individual was transported to the hospital in Longview. 11:20 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that there were trash cans in the road. The caller moved the trash cans off the road but was worried that there might more in Cathlamet.

January 16 10:17 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported being threatened by a person who they had a disagreement with. The caller was advised about getting a court order. 2:08 p.m. A Cathlamet caller reported that people were breaking branches on a tree in Cathlamet. Deputies spoke with the people who said that the tree was being assessed for safety by the town of Cathlamet.

January 17 1:55 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies assisted a motorist in Cathlamet who was locked out of their car. 12:12 p.m. A Cathlamet homeowner reported their trash cans stolen. 12:45 p.m. An Elochoman valley resident reported hearing shots fired and people duck hunting. 2:27 p.m. A caller on SR4 at Nassa Point reported a diesel spill. Sheriff deputies responded but did not find a diesel spill.

January 18 4:46 p.m. A tree was reported down on Steamboat Slough road. The county road supervisor was notified. 4:46 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an elderly Cathlamet resident who had fallen.

January 19 11:41 p.m. The Grays river ambulance responded to a Westend resident with back pain. 3:30 p.m. A welfare check was requested for an east county resident who the caller coule not get in touch with. 4:24 p.m. A Skamokawa caller reported that his neighbors goats are eating their trees. Sheriff’s deputies spoke with the neighbor and told them they needed to build a fence. 6:38 p.m. A Cathlamet resident called the sheriff’s department to ask for advice after a vehicle sale. They said that they sold their vehicle but the buyer had not come to get it, the caller worried that the person may return and try to steal from them.
