Clatskanie track and field team shapes up for state

The Clatskanie track and field team attended two meets last week, beginning with the 2A SD1 League Meet in Knappa on Tuesday, April 29. For the boys, Ayden Blackshire took fourth in both the Men's 100M and 200M with times of 12.75 and 25.64. Daylon Gutierrez took first in the 200M with a time of 24.73, while Aidan Bailey took fifth in the same event with a time of 25.68. Bailey also took first in the Men's 400M with a time of 55.43. Clatskanie had three top-five finishers in the Men's 800M with Zach Winford coming in second with a time of 2:29.46; Jason Miller coming in fourth with a time of 2:33.04; and Ethan Rigsby coming in fifth with a time of 2:35.85. Spain Bocanegra came in second in the Men's 3000M with a time of 11:19.17, and Quin May came in third in the Men's 110M Hurdles with a time of 20.13. In team competition, the quartet of Gutierrez, Blackshire, Bailey, and Ryder Gorley took second place in the Men's 4X100 Relay with a time of 46.91 and first place in the Men's 4X400 Relay with a time of 3:46.57.

In the field for the boys, Tristan Bocanegra took second place in the Men's Shot Put 12lb with a distance of 35 feet; third place in the Discus 1.6kg with a distance of 102 feet, 5 inches; and third place in the Javelin 800g with a distance of 114 feet, 9 inches. Kai Horn took fourth place in the same event with a distance of 91 feet, 8 inches. Gorley took third in the Men's High Jump with a height of 5 feet, 2 inches, while May took fifth in the same event with a height of 5 feet. Rounding out the field for the boys, Gutierrez took first in the Men's Long Jump with a distance of 17 feet, 10 inches, while Braydon Top took second in the same event with a distance of 17 feet, 4 inches.

For the girls, Natalie Baker, Rainey Palm, and Grace Hadley took first, third, and fifth place in the Women's 100M with times of 14.05, 14.81, and 15.19. In the 200M, Baker took first with a time of 29.24, followed by Lacey Willis' second-place time of 29.25, Mya Jensen's third-place time of 30.69, and Palm's fourth-place time of 31.74. Baker, Willis, and Jensen took first, second, and third in the Women's 400M with times of 1:05.77, 1:09.18, and 1:11.69, and Kiera Caceres took fifth in the same event with a time of 1:15.49. In the Women's 800M, Mai Lowe took second with a time of 3:02.64, Angelica Todd took third with a time of 3:25.21, and Izza Mustola took fourth with a time of 3:31.93. Lowe took third in the Women's 1500M with a time of 6:34.56, and Todd took fourth with a time of 7:15.26. Caselyn Thompson took second in the Women's 100M Hurdles with a time of 21.83 and first in the 300M hurdles with a time of 58.99. Maria Altafina took third in the same event with a time of 1:00.14. In team competition, the quartet of Grace Hadley, Palm, Altafina, and Caceres took second in the women's 4X100 Relay with a time of 58.55, and Josaphine Byrne, Caceres, Lowe, and Jensen took first in the 4X400 Relay with a time of 5:15.46.

In the field for the girls, Sami Stebbins took third in the Women's Shot Put 4kg with a distance of 24 feet, .25 inches, while Thompson took fifth with a distance of 23 feet, 2 inches. In the women's Discus 1kg, Jensen took second with a distance of 83 feet, 4 inches; Alainah Perkins took fourth with a distance of 76 feet, 11 inches; and Julianna Erickson took fifth with a distance of 62 feet, 7 inches. Erickson, Stebbins, and Mustola took second, fourth, and fifth in the Women's Javelin 600g with distances of 76 feet, 10 inches; 65 feet, 1 inch; and 62 feet, 9.5 inches. Willis took first in the Women's High Jump with a height of 4 feet, 8 inches; and Altafina and Thompson took first and second place in the Women's Long Jump with distances of 12 feet, 5 inches and 11 feet, 8 inches.

The team then traveled to Fishback Stadium, Wash. to take place in the Panther Twilight at Washougal High School on May 2. Gutierrez took fifth in the Men's 200M with a time of 23.8, while Bailey took third in the 400M with a time of 53.53, and May took fifth in the Men's 110M Hurdles with a time of 17.75. In team competition for the boys, the quartet of Gutierrez, Gorley, Blackshire, and Bailey took fourth place in the Men's 4X400 Relay with a time of 3:52.58. In the field for the boys, Gutierrez took fourth in the Men's Triple Jump with a distance of 38 feet, .5 inches.

In track competition for the girls, Willis took fourth in the Women's 100M with a time of 13.61, while Baker took fourth in both the Women's 200M and 400M with times of 28.1 and 1:03.77. In team competition, the quartet of Caceres, Altafina, Palm, and Thompson took fourth in the Women's 4X200 relay with a time of 2:10.97, and the team of Willis, Ward, Caceres, and Baker took fifth in the 4X400 Relay with a time of 4:40.53. In the field for the girls, Elle Tompkins took fifth in the women's Javelin 600g with a distance of 85 feet, 10 inches, while Willis took second in the women's High Jump with a height of 5 feet.

The team will host the 2A SD1 League Meet Thursday, May 8, at Dick Manick Field. Field competition begins at 4 p.m., and track begins at 4:15 p.m. The team will then participate in MS districts this Saturday, May 10.
