Following a three-game sweep of Gaston last week, the Clatskanie High School softball team has now won 16 straight games and has an unblemished 12-0 record in 2A/1A-SDI Special District 1 league play. Outscoring Gaston 51-10 over the three games, the hit barrage began last Tuesday, May 13, with a 16-0 mercy-rule shutout. The girls were led by junior Joey Sizemore, who had three RBI on three hits and scored two runs. Junior Kennedy Johnson co-led the team with three runs scored to go along with an RBI and her team-leading three hits, and sophomore Olivia George had two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored. Sophomore Emma Parmley tied Sizemore for the team high in RBI with three to go along with her hit and run scored. Sophomore Payton Taylor scored three runs as well, and senior Karielle Carlson gave a well-rounded offensive effort with a run scored, a hit, and two RBI.
The girls were back in action with a double header at home last Friday, May 16. Sizemore would knock in a total of 15 RBI on six hits and score four runs over the two games. The junior’s seven RBI would lead the team during the 18-3 victory in game one, adding three hits and scoring two runs. George and Johnson had identical stats with three RBI, two hits, and two runs scored each. Sophomore Adalyn Wemmer led the team with three runs scored to lead the team, knocking in three runs and collecting two hits in the process. Junior Kyrielle White scored two runs on one hit and knocked in a run, while junior Kayden Byrum scored a run and added an RBI. Parmley, Carlson, and Taylor combined for five runs scored in the mercy-rule victory.
The win streak would reach 16 games Friday afternoon with yet another 10-run victory for the Tigers. Sizemore knocked in eight runs on three hits while scoring two runs, and White scored a team-high four runs to go along with her two hits and two RBI. George co-led the team with three hits, and Johnson added two runs, two hits, and an RBI. Sophomore McKinsey Doyle scored two runs and an RBI on two hits, while Taylor, Parmley, Carlson, and Wemmer combined for six runs scored, four hits, and three RBI.
The Tigers (21-3) hosted Scio on Wednesday, May 21, but the results of the game were not available at the time of press. The results will be included in next week’s edition of The Eagle.
