The Clatskanie High School track and field team had two meets last week and plenty of top-five finishes. Beginning at a 2A SD1 League Meet at Aloha's Life Christian High School last Tuesday, May 13, the boys lit up the track. Ayden Blackshire and Mickey Simpson took second and third place respectively in the Men's 100M with times of 12.29 and 12.54. Quin May took first in the 200M with a time of 25.67, and Zach Swinford took fourth in the 400M with a time of 1:01.40. Aidan Bailey took fourth in the Men's 800M with a time of 2:09.91, and Ethan Rigsby and Zion Ausmus took third and fourth respectively in the 1500M with times of 5:26.91 and 5:35.49. Spain Bocanegra took fourth in the Men's 3000M with a time of 11:28.64, while May took first in the Men's 110M Hurdles with a time of 18.80 and Ryder Gorley took first in the 300M Hurdles with a time of 45.52. In team competition, the quartet of Gorley, Bailey Blackshire, and Daylon Gutierrez took first place in both the 4X100M and 4X400M Relays with times of 46.41 and 3:46.11. The team of Braydon Top, May, Swinford, and Simpson took third in the Men's 4X400M Relay with a time of 4:07.32.
In the field for the boys, Tristan Bocanegra and Blackshire took third and fourth respectively in the Men's Shot Put 12lb with distances of 34 feet, 8 inches and 34 feet, 5 inches. Tristan took third in the Men's Discus 1.6kg as well with a distance of 101 feet, 3.5 inches. Top and Gorley took first and third respectively in the Men's High Jump with heights of 5 feet, 8 inches and 5 feet, 4 inches. Top also took first in the Men's Long Jump with a distance of 17 feet, 7.25 inches, followed by Gutierrez, whose distance of 17 feet, 3.5 inches was good enough for second place. Top completed the trifecta with a first-place finish in the Men's Triple Jump with a distance of 33 feet, 10.5 inches to round out the boys in field competition.
For the girls on the track, Rainey Palm, Grace Hadley, and Kiera Caceres took first, second, and fifth respectively in the Women's 100M with times of 14.58, 14.78, and 15.17. Natalie Baker, Paytan Ward, Palm, and Caceres took first, second, third, and fifth respectively in the Women's 200M with times of 28.58, 30.41, 31.37, and 32.42. Simone Ellen, Ward, and Palm took first, third, and fifth place respectively in the women's 400M with times of 1:07.15, 1:09.83, and 1:10.66. Mai Lowe, Angelica Todd, and Izzy Mustola took first, second, and third place respectively in the 800M with times of 3:02.03, 3:10.8, and 3:42.39, and Lowe and Todd took first and second respectively in the Women's 1500M with times of 6:24.26 and 6:51.68. In team competition for the girls, the quartet of Ward, Lacey Willis, Baker, and Mya Jensen took first in the Women's 4X100M Relay with a time of 52.76. In the Women's 4X400M Relay, Palm, Jensen, Willis, and Baker took first place with a time of 4:35.21, while Caselyn Thompson, Mustola, Lowe, and Caceres took second with a time of 5:15.28.
In the field for the girls, Elle Tompkins took fourth in the Women's Shot Put 4kg with a distance of 27 feet, 3 inches, while Sami Stebbins and Caselyn Thompson tied for fifth place with equal distances of 24 feet, 9 inches. Jensen took third place in the Women's Discus 1kg with a distance of 89 feet, while Tompkins took fifth place in the same event with a distance of 77 feet, 3 inches. Willis took first place in the Women's High Jump with a height of 4 feet, 10 inches, while Baker took second in the same event with a height of 4 feet, 4 inches. Finally, Ward took first place in the women's Long Jump with a distance of 13 feet, 11 inches, while Jensen took third in the same event with a distance of 12 feet, 11.5 inches.
The team traveled to Regis St. Mary Catholic School Friday, May 16, for the Community Twilight Meet. For the boys, the team of Gorley, Bailey, Blackshire, and Gutierrez took fifth place in the Men's 4X400 Relay with a time of 3:39.92. In the field for the boys, May took fourth in the Men's Pole Vault with a height of 11 feet, 6 inches. For the girls in the field, Willis took third in the Women's High Jump with a height of 5 feet, and Palm took fifth in the Pole Vault with a height of 7 feet, 6 inches. The team's next meet is the 2A-SD1 District Championships Thursday, May 22, and Friday, May 23 at Portland Christian's track. The first event begins at noon.
