Tigers baseball completes sweep of Gaston

Following the team’s 11-0 win on the road at Gaston last Tuesday, May 13, the Tigers returned home Friday, May 16, for a double header against the same squad of Greyhounds. The first game started with Clatskanie jumping out to a 3-0 lead. The Tigers would add another run in the third and three more in the fourth to gain a comfortable enough lead to hold onto the rest of the way for the win. Clatskanie was led at the plate by junior Finn McDonnell, who had a team-high two RBI. Junior Cash Doney and freshman Will Van Voorst added a combined two runs scored, three hits, and two RBI, while senior Ben Blackwood and junior Luke Andreasen co-led the team with two runs scored each. Blackwood led the team with stolen bases, while junior Zach Mollenhour and Andreasen had a steal as well. Andreasen got the win from the mound, striking out five while giving up four hits and no earned runs over five innings. Senior Brendan Shroll came into the game in relief of Andreasen and struck out two batters over two innings.

The Tigers won the second game of the double header 7-1 to complete the season sweep. Jumping out to a 4-0 lead over the game’s first two innings, Clatskanie added another three runs in the fifth inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Shroll led the Tigers with two RBI to go along with his two hits. Doney led the team in both runs scored and stolen bases with two each, and Mollenhour, Andreasen, Shulda, and senior Victor Frank had a combined four hits, two runs and an RBI. Van Voorst and McDonnell had an RBI each, and Blackwood added a run scored in the winning effort. Andreasen, Shulda, Van Voorst, Mollenhour, and Shroll had a stolen bag each to keep the dust rising on the base paths for the Tigers. Mollenhour led Catskanie from the mound with seven strikeouts, one hit, and no earned runs over six innings, and Blackwood through a perfect seventh to secure the win for the Tigers.

Clatskanie (18-4) traveled to Union Tuesday, May 20, to face the Bobcats and St. Paul Wednesday, May 21, to face the Buckaroos, but the results of the game were not available at the time of press. The results will be included in next week’s edition of The Eagle.
