Friends of Julia Butler Hansen hold fundraiser

All are invited to join the community for an Ice Cream and Homemade Apple Pie Social in support of the Julia Butler Hansen House (35 Butler Street) on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Julia's son, David Hansen, will host home highlight tours, along with other presentations, music and garden tours.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door (if not sold out). Tickets may be purchased at Jabber Shack (65 Main Street, across from the JBH House) and the Chamber of Commerce. Tickets are also available online at machform.clnw.com. More information on the event is available on the Chamber's Facebook page.

The social will mark the first fundraising event at the home for the Friends of Julia Butler Hansen (FJBH), a non-profit 501(c)(3). Proceeds will support much needed funds aligned with requirements for Washington State grant funding. Join to celebrate the progress and future plans with plenty of homemade pies made locally with apples from Julia's garden and paired with old fashioned vanilla ice cream. An array of guest speakers will share stories related to the house, local area history, and future plans for the house and proposed heritage campus. Attendees will also get a sneak peek at historical and decorative items to be auctioned next spring to support the cause.

The house is on the State and National registries of historic places. Julia dedicated her life to serving the community and country. She was a third generation Wahkiakum County resident and served as the Congressional District 3 Representative to Congress for many years. She was known to enjoy her garden and a slice of homemade apple pie.

The Friends of Julia Butler Hansen's (FJBH)mission is to preserve, document, and honor the role that Julia and the women in her family had as pioneers of women's achievement and leadership. The (FJBH) plans to protect, and maintain the Julia Butler Hansen house, garden, and historic family furnishings. For more info email friendsofjuliabutlerhansen@gmail.com.
