Rainier City Council meetings now accessible with Zoom

Starting Monday, Sept. 15, Rainier City Council will be offering an option to participate in the monthly meetings virtually with Zoom. KLTV live stream has been a standard offering for live and on-demand remote viewing.

“We already go above and beyond what is required to make sure the deliberations of Rainier City Council are available for viewing to anyone, anywhere, at any time,” said Rainier City Administrator Scott Jorgensen. “For years, the city has partnered with KLTV to provide real-time broadcasts of city council meetings. We’re now taking that one step further to provide one more avenue for participation.”

Jorgensen said he spent time this summer working with the staff at KLTV to integrate the Zoom option into the live broadcast to avoid technical difficulties. “It’s important we maintain the quality of the broadcast,” said Jorgensen. “Along those lines, we’ve invested in additional equipment so every city council has their own microphone and upgraded the sound system so the audio quality of the meetings is enhanced.”

Attendees wishing to participate via Zoom can find the link and City Council agenda on the City of Rainier website at least one week prior to the meeting. Those with questions can submit them in advance or during the meeting. Questions will be monitored and moderated in real time.

The next meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15. Current agenda topics include such items as a public works projects update. Another upcoming item is a first reading of Ordinance 1102, regulating open burning within the Rainier city limits, establishing seasonal restrictions, providing for enforcement, and declaring an effective beginning and ending date. Another first reading will be of Ordinance 1103, permitting and regulating the use of Utility Task Vehicles (UTVs) and golf carts on city streets. Another future item is Resolution 25-09-01, which centers around establishing a fee schedule for certain Police Department services. Resolution 25-09-02 establishes criteria to adjust excessive water bills due to leaks. Other future items include Library Board appointments, approval of collective bargaining agreement with Teamsters Local 5, Oregon Government Ethics Commission Training, wastewater plant issues and city calendar/announcements.

To watch a live stream of the meeting, go to either kltv.org or cityofrainier.com or watch Channel 29 on local public access television. For special accommodations, contact the City Administrator at City Hall at least 48 hours prior to the meeting. The City of Rainier is an equal opportunity organization and provides all services and activities without regard to race, creed, color, sex, age or disability.
