Resist art show calls for visual and literary art

In collaboration with each other, AVA (Astoria Visual Arts) and The Writers Guild are calling for visual and literary art in response to the theme “Resist!” In a time marked by upheaval, defiance, and transformation, we look to creative voices to explore what it means to resist. Resistance can be personal or political, loud or quiet, collective or solitary. It may take the form of protest, survival, reclamation, or imagination. How do we push back against systems that seek to silence, erase, or control? What does resistance look like in your world and in your work?

Artists may submit up to three pieces across all media, including visual art, poetry, prose, and hybrid forms. Selected works will be featured in a curated exhibition that seeks to amplify diverse voices and visions of resistance. We especially encourage submissions from underrepresented voices and communities. Let your work be a force that questions, confronts, and reimagines.

The deadline for literary art (essay, poetry, fiction) is Sunday, Oct. 19. Send submissions to info@thewritersguild.org. Bring visual art to the AVA Gallery during their open hours. Monday, Nov. 3 through Wednesday, Nov. 5, for installation for the November gallery show. Artwork will remain up in the gallery for 1 month. Accepted works of writing will be read during a reception for the November Astoria Art Walk at the AVA Gallery (1000 Duane St., Astoria) on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 5 p.m. This event is free to the public.
