Clatskanie completes comeback vs. Portland Christian

The Clatskanie Tigers girls volleyball streak of 27 straight sets won came to an end with a 25-27 defeat last Tuesday, Sept. 30, against Portland Christian. Fortunately for the girls, the team's win streak would remain intact, as the Tigers, though falling in the second set 19-25, would come back in three straight sets (28-26, 25-21, 15-8) to defeat the Royals at home. "[We] got it the hard way tonight," said Head Coach Amanda Baker, who applauded her players' efforts in the win at home.

Junior Lacey Willis came away as the game's top serve receiver Tuesday, leading the team with 25 kills to go along with 13 digs, two aces, and a save. Senior Joey Sizemore led the Tigers in aces with three to go along with her 21 kills, two stuff blocks, and three digs. Junior Addy Compton led the Tigers with 46 assists and 18 digs, contributing three kills, two aces, and a save as well. According to Baker, junior Olivia George deserves "so much credit" for last Tuesday's win. "Her attitude and heart carried the team tonight for this huge win," said Baker. "We wouldn't have come back from behind like that without her." Rounding out the field in the comeback victory were juniors McKinsey Doyle and Peyton Krueger, as Doyle contributed 13 digs and Krueger had two stuff blocks, five digs, and an ace. "We hit a lot of goals tonight," said Baker. "Cleaning up serving errors, playing tough defense, and running our offense out of system."

The Tigers would not need a two-set comeback Thursday, Oct. 2, against Vernonia, sweeping the Loggers in three straight sets (25-17, 25-12, 25-9) at home to extend the team's win streak to 11 games. Sizemore and Willis led the team with 12 kills each, and Compton led in both assists with 21 and digs with 12. George and Sizemore co-led the team in aces with seven apiece, and senior Mya Jensen rounded out the field with four kills in the win over Vernonia.

The Tigers (14-1) traveled to Aloha Tuesday, Oct. 7, to take on Faith Bible Christian, but the results of the game were not available at the time of press. The Tigers travel to Gaston Thursday, Oct. 9, Seaside Saturday, Oct. 11, and Knappa Tuesday, Oct. 14, before returning home Thursday, Oct. 16, to take on Portland's Columbia Christian.
