Cathlamet Public Library presents an evening with James Dott and Robert Michael Pyle Saturday, Nov. 8 from 6-8 p.m. at the Pioneer Community Center (125 Columbia St.) for the season's fourth installment of Author Talk. The series features local area writers whose work has been published.
James Dott will be highlighting his book "Touch Wood," a lyric field guide to trees. The poems of "Touch Wood" are elegies, narratives, and meditations on our tangled histories. Dott's poems provide a deeper understanding of trees and our kinship with them. Those in attendance have the opportunity to learn the roots and truths of these trees amongst which we live here in the Pacific Northwest.
Robert Michael Pyle will be sharing his book "Swimming with Snakes," a collection of his poems and short prose. He is known for his lyric essays, poems, and fiction. Here, he brings them all together in a big shout-out to his lucky life in the midst of it all, as he encourages us to pay attention to each other, ourselves, and the plants and animals we live with each day. "My only hopes for "Swimming with Snakes" are to sweeten your life a little with the tellings, and to encourage your own close attention to and care of the other ones we are so privileged to live among," he said.
Copies of "Touch Wood" and "Swimming with Snakes" will be available for purchase during Saturday's event. Parking may be challenging, so please arrive early as needed. Light refreshments will follow the event in the room below. We hope to see you there.
