The Rainier, Clatskanie, and Knappa (RCK) girls co-op soccer team ended the season with an impressive feat during the state playoffs. This amazing team finished the regular season with a league record of 4-4-2. The team scored 25 goals, showing a huge turnaround from only having won a few games a couple of years ago.
Coached by Eric Smythe and Garye Twichell, the team was able to improve their skills and grow together. RCK had many outstanding players. As the teams’ goalkeeper, Annalise Pina was able to improve. Throughout the season, she made many saves, helping the team to win. Offensively, Rainier’s Maddy Twichell and Knappa’s Mylie Lempea were the teams’ top goal scorers and were both consistent and important.
On Tuesday, Nov. 4, the first round of playoffs was held. Rainier faced the Dalles, which proved to be a challenging opponent. The Dalles is ranked second in the 4A state records, while RCK is ranked 15th. RCK played its best but, sadly, went home after being defeated 8-0. Although the girls lost, the playoffs still became a milestone and a good experience for the program. Participating in the postseason showed the growth of the team and the effort they put in to win.
This year’s seniors went above and beyond, working as captains for their team. They provided guidance and leadership for all of their teammates, and dedication from all of the players, both on and off the field, led to an amazing season for all of the players.
This season will be remembered as a huge turning point for this program. Everyone worked extremely hard to make this season one of the best, leading to many new accomplishments and goals never thought possible before.
