The Area Agency on Aging & Disabilities of Southwest Washington (AAADSW) supports older adults, adults with disabilities, and family caregivers across Clark, Cowlitz, Wahkiakum, Skamania, and Klickitat counties. Through advocacy, planning, and service coordination, AAADSW works to promote independence, dignity, and quality of life for the region’s aging and disability communities.
The group is currently inviting passionate community members to apply for open seats on its Advisory Council. The council is a citizen-led body that plays a vital role in shaping services for older adults, adults with disabilities, and family caregivers across the region.
Established under the Older Americans Act of 1965, the Advisory Council reviews and comments to AAADSW leadership on the development, implementation, and evaluation of aging and long-term care services. Council members offer recommendations on legislative priorities and community needs, ensuring programs reflect the voices and experiences of those they serve.
The 18-member Advisory Council represents five Southwest Washington counties: Clark, Cowlitz, Wahkiakum, Skamania, and Klickitat. Members serve as advocates for older adults, adults with disabilities, and caregivers in their communities.
Current vacancies exist in multiple counties, including one open position each in Cowlitz and Skamania counties and two open positions each in Klickitat and Wahkiakum counties. AAADSW encourages applicants who are committed to strengthening local aging and disability services. As far as their role is concerned, Advisory Council members advise AAADSW leadership on programs, policies, and emerging community needs; provide input on the agency’s area plan; participate in monthly meetings; advocate for older adults, adults with disabilities, and caregivers; and offer recommendations on legislative issues. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month from noon to 1:30 p.m. at AAADSW’s Vancouver office, with hybrid participation options available.
AAADSW is seeking individuals who are passionate about improving quality of life for older adults and people with disabilities; bring experience, professional expertise, or community insight; are willing to engage in thoughtful discussion and collaborative problem-solving; and want to influence regional aging and disability policy. No prior board experience is required.
