Sonja Delight George

Sonja Delight George (née Multanen), beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and dear friend to so many, was born on May 28, 1937, in Fresno, Calif., to parents Clifford and Elena Multanen. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 10, 2026. She lived a life marked by deep faith, creativity, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.

A woman of great faith, Sonja loved Jesus and was a lifelong member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church. Music was one of the many gifts she shared with others. She faithfully played the organ at church for years, and her beautiful voice could be heard filling the sanctuary with worship and joy.

Sonja was a devoted mother who raised seven children with strength, determination, and love. Her life was a testament to her faith, perseverance and selfless care for her family. She poured her heart into raising her children and later cherished the growing circle of grandchildren who brought her great pride and happiness.

Blessed with many talents, Sonja was both musically and artistically gifted. She was well known for decorating beautiful cakes that brought joy to countless celebrations. Throughout most of her life, she also dedicated herself to helping others improve their health and well-being. Through nutrition, reflexology, and other holistic practices, she compassionately guided and encouraged many people on their path toward healthier lives.

Sonja was preceded in death by her two sons, John and Keith George; her parents, Clifford and Elena Multanen; her brother and sister-in-law, Monty and Sue Multanen; and her sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Gary Geer.

She is lovingly remembered by her five surviving children, Paula Hilman (Alen), Mark George (Peggy), Teresa Sargent, Laura Conover (Casey) and Kevin George (Lyza), as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary Multanen (Susan) and Cliff Multanen (Dianna), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives were touched by her kindness, wisdom, and faith.

Funeral services will be held at the Clatskanie Apostolic Lutheran Church, 18614 Beaver Falls Rd, Clatskanie, Ore., on Saturday, March 21. Calling hours will be at 10 a.m., with a service at 11 a.m. and burial to follow.

Sonja's legacy lives on through the family she raised, the people she helped, the music she shared, and the faith she carried throughout her life. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
