  • Mules fall to Ducks, face Mossyrock in loser-out game

    David McNally, Wah. Co. Eagle|Feb 17, 2011

The Wahkiakum Mules came up just short last Thursday night against the Toutle Lake Ducks in Castle Rock, suffering a 50-49 defeat. The last second finish didn’t come without much controversy though, as an apparent blown call on an offensive rebound by Brett Chaput left those who saw the play in complete shock, myself included. With only 2.6 seconds remaining and the Mules trailing by two, Wyatt Parker pulled in a rebound on the defensive end and was fouled in the process. Parker stepped up to the free throw line to shoot a one-and-one with t...

  • Comettes swamp Mules 49-29 in district play

    David McNally, Wah. Co. Eagle|Feb 17, 2011

The Naselle Comette defense was too much for the Wahkiakum Lady Mules as Naselle won a 49-29 2B Girls District Tournament basketball team Tuesday in Rochester. The Mules had a tough time advancing the ball down the court against the Comets full-court pressure and open looks from the field were few and far between. The Mules mustered only 29 points on eight of 55 shooting from the field and 11 for 29 from the free throw line. The loss ends the Lady Mules' season. The Comettes had a much better night, shooting 38 percent as they rolled to a...

  • Fair board dinner was huge success

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Feb 17, 2011

WILD ONE--Last Saturday was a wild one fr awhile, as the wind came up and was just wreaking havoc in several places. Some cars in the Costco parking lot were not overly impressed with the windy weather when a culvert from a neighboring construction site took flight and landed on their vehicles. Wow, that would have ruined your day wouldn't it? Around our neck of the woods, we just had a lot of limbs scattering the roadways and some patio furniture had to be rescued by some East Valley residents, but I hadn't heard of anything real bad. On Monda...

  • County revises capital grant award

    Rick Nelson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Feb 17, 2011

Last week Wahkiakum County officials announced the award of grants from their Capital Projects Fund for local government entities. This week, county commissioners announced they had mistakenly awarded one project. They rescinded the award from the Capital Projects Fund but in turn funded it from Flood Control Fund. The project was for Fire District 4 which would use the $9,000 grant to purchase and equip a small truck for rescue responses in times of flooding. The problem with the award, commission Chair Lisa Marsyla explained, is that a...

Following a meeting last week with representatives of Lewis County and the state Department of Ecology, Wahkiakum County commissioners are planning further study of ways to control application of biosolids in the county. Biosolids are processed human sewage that are applied as fertilizer to forest and agricultural land. The plan has drawn much adverse impact from Grays River Valley...

  • Assessor: Adjust Island assessments

    Rick Nelson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Feb 17, 2011

He hopes that because of the large number of appeals, the Board of Equalization will be able to adjust values for all Island parcels. The board of commissioners said they wanted to have input from Prosecuting Attorney...

  • What they know just ain't so

    Feb 17, 2011

To The Eagle: Will Rogers pointed out that it isn't so much what you don't know that will hurt you but rather the things you're absolutely sure of that just ain't so. That's being aptly demonstrated in California, where the voters ignored the financial disaster alarm bells that alerted the rest of the country last November, voted in the four Ls (leftists, liberals, loonies and labor) with Governor Moonbeam at the helm. He's pledged to build 20,000 watts of green power, connect all the major cities with high speed rail, and hire thousands of...
