GLOOMY--Our freezing weather finally released its grip on us, and the rainy weather showed back up, but they say we may have some dry weather coming and we'll be dipping down in the 20s again! Of course, the other forecaster I heard said that if a front moves in, there will be snow in the mountains and some areas it would be down to 1000 feet. I am hoping that the snow stays away until all of our Christmas festivities are over, as traveling during the holidays is always a challenge! Even if we only have heavy rains this week, we do need to...

Town of Cathlamet Librarian Carol Blix was...

To The Eagle: We would like to express appreciation to the Wahkiakum County Sheriff's Department for their help recently. Our daughter, visiting over Thanksgiving weekend, locked her keys in her Jeep. We thank you gentlemen, along with all members of the department for all the services you provide our community. Char and Rick Damitio Cathlamet...

Puget Island residents Ralph and Helen Keyser were recently named the Womans Club Citizens of the Year for their community service. Ralph Keyser and Helen Loberg were born and raised in Wahkiakum County and they wouldn't have it any other way. I have no desire to go any place else," Helen said. "You know so many people and you feel safe in a small community. I'm not a city girl." As youths, both were raised on farms. "We lived clear out in the Elochoman," Helen said. "We were the first kids on...
COLD ENOUGH?--We've dried out recently but with that dryness came some bone-chilling temperatures here in our neck of the woods. I am not a lover of the 20-something temps but I have loved the blue sky and sunshine that warmed things up to the 40s! I hope you're all faring well during this bitter cold and you've taken the proper steps to insure that you don't freeze up around your house and your animals are tended to accordingly. Considering the fires raging in California and the snowy conditions in many parts of the midwest and south and...

After two days of discussions, Wahkiakum County commissioners are a bit closer to setting their 2019 budgets. They spent Monday and Tuesday meetings discussing levy numbers and last minute requests from department heads and supporters of the Cathlamet town library. On November 14 at 7:30 in the morning, Cathlamet resident Mike Paulsen was driving one of the Jerry DeBriae Logging trucks while towing a 60-ton log shuttle. Just as he crossed the Grays River Bridge and rounded a curve, the trailer hitch broke and caused the log shuttle to careen off the trailer and turn upside down at the bottom of the slope below SR 4. Crews gathered November 29 to recover the machine. The 54 year old Paulsen, who was having his birthday during the recovery of the log...
COLD!--As I begin this column, we're just at 32 here Monday morning. Forecasters say we will be fairly dry this week, which almost always winds up meaning "dry but very cold" in the evening hours. Having some dry time would be nice, as I'm sure everyone is in full shopping mode and it's more fun if we're not getting drenched, but I could sure do without the extra cold. Here's hoping you escape any frozen water lines or pipes and you got your RV's all winterized, etc., and you're all set to keep yourself warm and toasty! ANIMALS NEEDS--Please...
