  • Motion and life

    Dec 15, 2016

To The Eagle: Okay, so we have that life is all about motion, right? Now here is a little goodie that you can apply to motion - life. Always turn motion to advantage. There are several ways to do this. One is based on the concept of I, me, my, mine - everything is about me type attitude. The other is based around we, us, they, them - motion intended to create the greatest good for the greatest number. Here is how it works. No matter what happens in your life find a way to turn it into something good. If it is already good, make it better. The o...

  • Inspirational painted rocks start to appear

    Diana Zimmerman|Dec 15, 2016

Cathlamet resident Amy Hoogendoorn had read about the phenomenon in other towns and cities, but it was while hiking Mt. St. Helens with her friends Katie and Montana Stephens that the charm of finding inspirational painted rocks brought the feeling home for her. These days, she and her friends are literally bringing that feeling home to Cathlamet, by painting rocks and hiding them all over the community. They began by painting 100-150 rocks and hiding them in parks, businesses and other public...

  • More snow, ice may be coming our way

    Kay Chamberlain|Dec 15, 2016

ROUND TWO--How did you make out during our little snow and freezing rain routine last week? I hope you weren't one of several who wound up in the ditch around here, as it only took about an hour of the white stuff coming down, and there was a call out, so let's hope you're slowing down and preparing yourself a little more for this second round of cold weather. By the time you read this, there is a possibility of more snow and/or icy conditions, so let's hope we slow down a little more, stay home if we don't have to be out and about, and then...

  • Commissioners okay budgets for 2017

    Rick Nelson|Dec 8, 2016

Wahkiakum County commissioners on Tuesday passed a resolution adopting county budgets for 2017. Predicting revenue shortfalls for another year, officials tried to keep increases as low as possible. The county treasurer has had to make $1.1 million in interfund loans in 2016 to cover expense, commission Chair Blair Brady said Monday. Those interfund loans must be repaid, he said, and the 2017 revenue shortfall will be around $700,000. The county received $900,000 this month from the Department of Natural Resources from a land transfer that will...

  • More information on EC process offered

    Dec 8, 2016

To the Eagle: Thank-you, Rick for the AP article discussing the Electoral College [EC] process. The AP journalist missed a few key components of EC design. The EC was created at a Convention of States. That convention met so states could create our federal Constitution, while protecting their state sovereignty. That is, the dual sovereignty republic we live in today. Alexander Hamilton wanted direct citizen election of the president, but the states said no. Selection of the states president, was not to be a popular vote, as the job is not...

  • Get those letters mailed to Santa

    Kay Chamberlain|Dec 8, 2016

BRR--If you've been in our area, you will have noticed a ton of rain, and then, a big cool down and even some flakes of snow! Actually, enough snow to make it nice and white! I heard from a classmate who lives in Everett and he said it was snowing there on Sunday, so I was afraid we might get some when I saw those clouds rolling in on Sunday afternoon and the temperatures dropping lower and lower, so I guess it was no surprise. Still, more is predicted for the latter part of this week for several days with freezing temperatures to boot, so get...

The event began at 4:30 p.m. The lights were set on a timer for 5 p.m., and despite the chill and the wet, the congregation was smiling and laughing. Patient. • Positive motion not rocket science

    Dec 1, 2016

To The Eagle: Life is in motion, Life is motion. The more motion there is the more life there is. If your life is not as you want it, create some motion. Any motion; but be aware that motion that is pro-survival enhances ones life while non-survival motion decreases life potential. Yes it is that way, sorry to say. Example: Let’s say I have a vehicle I would like to sell. I can either sit here at my desk and “wish” the darn thing would sell and someone would come along and buy it. Likely it will not sell. (No Motion.) Or, I get my body movin...

  • November may set a rainfall record

    Kay Chamberlain|Dec 1, 2016

GRAY & WET--As we ended November, I think we broke a record for being one of the wettest Thanksgivings here at our house ever, as we had 3.89 inches of rain that day! Although there were many areas who were seeing a soggy day, I don't think there were many who were seeing that kind of rainfall, lucky us! I am truly grateful that the power didn't go out and that we just dealt with the usual high water and field flooding but nothing that was extrodinarily bad. Curious as to our rainfall amount here for the year? Well, in our valley, we're up to...
