Clatskanie Arts Commission presents Jaca

Bring the family and enjoy the rad world sounds of Jaca Saturday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. Jaca is an award-winning clarinet/guitar duo that combines world music, virtuosity, and humor to bring an adventurous, passionate, and completely original musical style to the stage. These guys are not only consummate musicians, they are entertainers extraordinaire, bringing wit, verve, and international vibes from Portugal, Canada, Spain, Brazil and, more domestically, West Virginia. The group will perform inside the intimate interior of the cozy Birkenfeld Theater, which us part of the Clatskanie Culture Center at 75 S. Nehalem St.

Jaca combines the immediacy of an instrumental duo with larger-than-life energy to create an experience that consistently leaves audiences buzzing. Jaca’s unique fusion fits into no single genre. From Flamenco to Fado, Appalachia to Argentina, and guitar slides to clarinet smears, the duo explores the highest limits of what their instruments can do. The duo is funny as well. The best music teachers you’ll ever have will entertain the entire family, so stop in town for dinner before heading to this once-in-a lifetime show. The only tickets you’ll need to buy are found by visiting clatskaniearts.org.

Following Jaca, the Clatskanie Arts Commission has plenty of other performances coming up this season. Project Convergence, an American dance company performing a fusion of the Bharatanatyam and American tap dance, comes to the Birkenfeld Theater Saturday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. The group will be presenting an experience simultaneously familiar and unfamiliar to audiences by uniting Indian and African-American cultures in the universal language of rhythm.

Over the holiday season, the theater will host Ted Vigil’s “A Rocky Mountain Christmas: A John Denver Tribute” on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. Many John Denver songs come shining through in A Rocky Mountain Christmas.‍ Ted’s gift for the music, along with a polished and energetic performing style, will create a warm and delightful afternoon for the whole family to enjoy. ‍

Early next year, Pipeline Vocal Project (PVP): A Cappella Queens of Alaska, will strive to spread the love of contemporary a cappella by performing original, innovative arrangements of pop songs that will involve the crowd in rhythmic and harmonic participation. The group performs in the Birkfeld Theater, Friday, Jan. 23, 2026 at 7:30 p.m.

Finally, on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 3 p.m., acoustic performers Brownsmead Flats will bring both traditional and original songs to the Birkfeld Theater. The group brings its blend of Crabgrass (bluegrass with a maritime flavor) tradition, which will serve as a perfect precursor to St. Patrick’s Day.
