Local boat builder makes donation to Search and Rescue Recently, local boat builder Michael Baccellieri generously donated a beautiful handcrafted wooden boat as a fundraising item for the Wahkiakum County Search and Rescue Team. From his boat shop on Puget Island, Welcome Slough Boatworks, Baccellieri spent many hours crafting the boat from logs he had salvaged from the Columbia River in the area around Cathlamet and Puget Island. After milling the logs into useable building stock, he performed his magic and the lovely little boat was born....
MIXED BAG--I no sooner turned in my news last week and the weather took a turn for the worse and got pretty wet and pretty windy and some areas wound up losing power, while others had trees coming down, but it really depended on where you were as to how bad it was. On Sunday at 12:37 p.m., the Skamokawa Fire Department, the District 4 Fire Department, the Cathlamet Fire Department, the Puget Island Fire Department and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to the report of a structure fire in Skamokawa. In March of 2015, Kenny Evans came to Cathlamet Christian Fellowship to preach weekly while the church was in transition without a lead pastor. It was originally meant to be a three month process but Evans was asked to stay on and in November he accepted the position. Chuck Brett Falconer, 56, of Cathlamet passed away peacefully Feb. 22, 2016, at the Hospice Care Center. He was born April 12, 1959, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Robert Falconer and Norma Shores. Chuck grew up in Cowlitz County and relocated to California in his teen years. At 17, Chuck joined the Air Force and was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base working as a security guard.
