The 2nd Annual Warriors and Widows Salmon Derby will be held August 29-30 according to Cathlamet area resident and VFW member, Bob Roche, who is organizing the event. "We believe it is the only salmon derby in the nation specifically for men and women who were injured while wearing the uniform of the United States," said Roche. Wahkiakum County commissioners on Tuesday authorized funding for initial studies for a potential housing project at Cathlamet. County Mental Health Director Chris Holmes requested authorization to spend up to $10,000 on two studies whose findings could determine whether or not the county buys the site proposed for the development. WET START--As our big Valentine's Day arrived, so did the rain and boy, it didn't take long and all the fields around were "lakes" once again!
