All first time hunters born after January 1, 1972 must complete the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife hunter education course in order to purchase a hunting license. The course will be held at the Cathlamet Fire Hall, 255 2nd St., in the DeBriae Room. A VARIETY--This week began with Easter Sunday and I trust you had a good one. We began the day with temperatures at freezing and a whole lot of fog, but it wound up super nice during the day, which lent itself to sitting on the patio and enjoying the sun. Dr. Jeanine Marie Vandevort passed away on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 10:00 AM in the Oncology Unit at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, with her family at her side, after a one and a half year battle against cancer. Dr. Vandevort was born in Longview, Washington on July 21, 1947 to Lyle “Dutch” Vandevort and Roberta Gorman. She was the first of three children. Judith Anne (Judy) was the youngest born to Anna Mae and Lesly Wilson on November 20, 1936 in Los Angeles, California. Judy succumbed to cancer and passed March 3, 2015 in Longview, Washington. Judy’s parents passed prior to her sister Virginia Woolson (Harry predeceased) and brother Robert Wilson (Anita predeceased). Judy met her husband Robert Curtis at the Los Angeles Times where they both worked. They retired and moved to Cathlamet in 1993. Bob passed in 2000. The Cathlamet Fire Department would like to inform the residents of the Town of Cathlamet that fire hydrant flushing will be conducted between April 9 and April 24. During this activity residents may experience discoloration in their drinking water. This is due to iron deposits in the water main becoming dislodged during the flushing of the hydrants. One person was injured in a two-car collision at 9:06 a.m. last Saturday on SR 4 near County Line Park. According to a report from the Washington State Patrol a 2002 Hundai Elantra driven westbound by Desiree Jensen, Cathlamet, crossed the centerline and collided with an eastbound 2011 Ranger driven by Juanita Irving, also of Cathlamet.
