  • CMA at health clinic says goodbye to community

    Nov 26, 2013

To The Eagle: Since January 2010 I have had a wonderful experience and enjoyed the fantastic relationships with you all while working here in Cathlamet. Thank you - for accepting me into your families and allowing me to assist in your health care. As most of you know my mother passed away on October 4th of this year. Some of you may also know that I was a caregiver for her until the end. Needless to say I have taken her loss harder than expected. At the end of October I had a "difficult time coping with change" and put in my resignation. A...

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Nov 15, 2013

COOLING OFF--The fireplaces are being stoked and the heaters are getting turned up, as we are definitely feeling some Fall temperatures in the air around here but then, I guess that's to be expected, as it is mid-November after all. While we may be back to some rain as this Tuesday morning arrives, at least we are not dealing with any serious weather conditions such as they've had in the Phillipines where thousands of lives are feared lost and towns were totally obliterated. We offer up our prayers on their behalf as they struggle with the...

  • Time for PUD to accept small rate increase

    Nov 15, 2013

To The Eagle: I find it so sad to read that the city (Cathlamet) and the PUD (public utility district) cannot sit down and negotiate a new contract. Webster's defines negotiate, "To confer with another so as to come to terms or reach an agreement." The PUD needs to remember the city's water plant was built with tax payer funds and only has a true obligation to provide water to the city proper. The PUD has made the decision to supply water to Puget Island. However, the PUD wants to be able to buy water below cost from the city and mark it up by...

Fifty years ago, the 1963 Wahkiakum Mule football team earned a record of 8-0 and were voted second in the state in the football writers’ poll. The team edged the Knappa Loggers 12-7 in their first game and held opponents scoreless in their next seven games. They were Pacific League champions. There were no statewide football playoffs, so they didn’t have an opportunity to claim a legitimate state title. They were good athletes: There was (and is) a state basketball tournament, and the Mules, with that group of athletes, won the state cha...
