  • An invitation to live beyond one's means?

    Jan 10, 2013

To The Eagle: Back in the old days, when dirt was still hot and dinosaurs roamed the earth and I was a kid, if you did not have the money to buy something you wanted you either went without or you got busy and earned the money needed. Or you traded your time or services or something of value you owned for the item you wanted. That was referred to as "living within your means." Somewhere along the line someone came up with the idea of "lending" money. This was promoted as a way to get what you want now and pay later. "Just make one ‘small easy p...

Becky Ledtke, Wah. County Fair Manager|Jan 10, 2013

We have in our approved Wahkiakum County Fair budget for 2013, $13,500 to pay out to adult and youth exhibitors. Adults will be receiving the same dollar per point as youth exhibitors again. The premium point payment has been reinstated in our budget for Adults, spread the word! With the above good news circulating around our community, a question was asked; “How about purchasing ribbons for the adult exhibitors instead of using stickers?” To buy these ribbons we will need to ask for donations from our community, as we didn’t plan the extra...

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jan 3, 2013

NEW YEAR--Here it is: My first column of a new year and onto my 19th year to boot. It seems like yesterday! What a year this has been and with never a dull moment. As 2012 was coming to a close, we wound up having freezing weather and very thick fog out here in West Valley on Sunday and Monday mornings, so while I enjoyed the sunshine that showed up once the fog lifted, the nippy nighttime temperatures and snow in...

  • What's happening at the Fair?

Becky Ledtke, Wah. County Fair Manager|Jan 3, 2013

Working outside in this cold weather isn’t much fun, yet wintertime projects at the Fairgrounds continue to be planned and completed. One of our projects is to fix all the little problems some of our buildings have acquired over the years. The horse barn gutters had come loose, sending rain water cascading down the siding and the resulting pools of water were flowing into some horse stalls. Bill Chamberlain and Ed Stevens worked together to put those gutters back to doing their job! They also noticed that the metal roof, probably because of t...
