The final wheelbarrow load of straw and manure mulch for the season was emptied onto the garden December 12. The community garden has been put to bed,...
Town of Cathlamet officials are struggling to find a way to pay for remodeling of the old town hall building. The town received two bids for the project, and the lower bidder, Pacific Tech Construction, came in at $369,957, which is $130,000 over the architect's estimate for the work. Council members discussed whether or not to accept the bid or how to pay for the complete cost of the project. They asked for further information and said they would make a decision at their January 22 meeting. The project calls for installing public restrooms...

The council voted to continue consideration and action to its January meeting.) Council members heard comment and commented on the appeal for 34 minutes but asked the town attorney to provide more information about variances...
To The Eagle: Ground breaking for the Empire State Building was in January, 1930 and ribbon-cutting took place in May, 1931, six months early and 30 percent under estimated cost. We used to build dams, bridges, skyscrapers and other immense projects in mere months from drawing board to completion. Now, building anything requires conferences, studies, a gazillion permits, and numerous lawsuits if the construction’s construed to threaten a three-toed toad or spotted spoonbill, or violate any of 347,288 (give or take) obscure and obtuse r...

WET AND WILD--The last few days have been nothing but wet and at times, more like a monsoon weather rather than just plain old Skamokawa rain. It’s been horrific at times! New rivers have carved themselves into my driveway. My field is once again a lake, which only the ducks and geese seem to enjoy. With a rainy week forecast, I hope we stay afloat. Holiday crunch time is upon us, and we don't need any flooding! As I finish this up, it's blowing and nasty out. I hope we all keep our power as I'm pretty sure the ladies are in cookie making...

The real estate investment firm that owns the building, Aviv REIT Inc., of Chicago, offered to sell the building to the Town of Cathlamet earlier this fall. When the groups met last Thursday, however, they learned that Aviv has put the building up for sale in an online auction to be held January 23....
