We are starting our Fairgrounds winterization projects! A huge thanks to Ed Stevens, Mark Crary, Barbara Clark and Georgie Billings for moving our big freezers, refrigerators, ice machine, ice cream freezer and stoves out of the food booth and onto the entertainment stage. Our new stage built by Contractor Mark Crary can hold the weight of these appliances because Mark used 2” by 10” floor joists to support the floor. We will hope for a dry winter but we are getting prepared for a wet one. The stage will be the new high and dry home for our...

Dearmore and Undersheriff Mark Howie have been working t...
To The Eagle: Through this letter, I want to thank and recognize the work of The Charlotte House. Thanks for the opportunity of being admitted to the program and to those directly responsible, I want to congratulate the result and thank the efforts and dedication invested in me, in my process. As a consequence, I am on the verge of getting my permanent residence in the United States of America. Likewise, I want to emphasize the team spirit and fellowship observed during my stay in the months that I was living in the institution. I hope I can...
To The Eagle: I have blissfully sat by and been an armchair critic too long. As a tax-paying voting citizen of our community, I cannot be indifferent to either the mayor or the volunteer firemen's criticism. One must know that the mayor is essentially a full-time volunteer position receiving a paltry salary of $250 a month to supervise about seven full-time employees. As a volunteer, I believe the requirements are to serve your community or organization to the best of your ability with no expectation of compensation. One may learn more about...

RAIN--We ended last week with some rain and began the week with showers, plain ole rain and some good, gusty winds, which brought down a lot of leaves along the roadways; definitely seemed more like Fall! I'd just about forgotten how miserable it can be tromping around in a parking lot in the rain! The good news out of the rainy stretch was that it sure helped calm down those fire fears, as things were tinder dry out there. From now on, we'll be thoroughly enjoying those upcoming dry days, even though they may be shorter and the evening hours...
The Cathlamet Town Council met in special meetings Tuesday to address three issues. First, the council approved a proposal to end a moratorium on new building permits for the Glengate addition. The council adopted the moratorium last year when it appeared the developer and home owners association weren't working together and weren't completing required road construction. On Tuesday, Donal McIntosh, representing the developer, said the association had met and come up with a plan to accomplish the work. They proposed setting up an account with...
The Wahkiakum School District Board of Directors last week tabled action on a request for a temporary construction road easement for the Town of Cathlamet. The town opened bids for its new wastewater treatment plant on Friday. The plant will be built on land purchased from the district, and town officials have asked for an easement to build a temporary road for construction at the edge of the school's Farm Forest. The district has already granted an easement for a permanent access road to the plant site, but that road will run uphill, and...

To The Eagle: I love reading The Wahkiakum County Eagle. However, I dislike reading about the Mayor's personal attack on an upstanding citizen like Jerry DeBriae. Jerry has spent his adult life devoted to the Fire Dept. and the town of Cathlamet. I think the answer is for the Mayor to resign. Paul Bjornsgard Naselle...
