The alleged misuse of these gasoline credit cards over the period of February, 2008, to August, 2010, totals $5,840. The Wahkiakum County Fair Board's Easter Bingo was a successful fund raising event! By 6:30 p.m. the multi-purpose room at the grade school was filled with people ready to play bingo. Wahkiakum PUD commissioners announced Tuesday that they have appointed Eugene Healy of Puget Island to fill a vacancy on their board. The vacancy was created by the resignation of Puget Island resident Larry Reese in March. Healy was selected from a slate of 15 candidates, said commission Chair Dennis Reid. The Cathlamet Town Council on Monday reviewed a lot of business that is involving a lot of waiting. The design for the town's new sewer plant will be completed soon, said engineer Ken Alexander of Gray and Osborne, Inc., engineering. Now, the town has to wait to see what funding will be available from state and federal sources. The firm is now negotiating with the state Department of Transportation over right-of-way issues, Alexander said. To The Eagle: The night of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan we were awakened by a phone call from a relative who saw the news on TV. After watching the news for a while, we decided to get some sleep and check back at 5 a.m. when the tsunami was expected to hit Hawaii. John Francis Lawrence, 90, passed away April 4, 2011 at his home in Cathlamet. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 13, 1920 to Samuel and Agnes (Cassidy) Lawrence. Many people don’t know there are homeless in Wahkiakum County, Mental Health Director Chris Holmes said. But in the year beginning in July 2009, Wahkiakum Health and Human Services sheltered 13 households, or 15 individuals--including two children--with a total of 964 bed-nights in a variety of units, Coordinator Mary Vik said. Anna Lee York, 89, died March 24, 2011. She was born August 23, 1921 to Edward and Minnie Dillard in Springfield, Mo., the youngest of eight children. Raised in Ebeniezer, Mo., she married Clyde W. State Route 4 will remain closed just west of Stella until early next week while crews stabilize a slope threatening to slide onto the highway.
