SOME GOOD/SOME BAD--Thank goodness we had a nice day on Saturday after some morning clouds, as it made the Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt a big hit, and all the doings at the Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds were much more enjoyable as well. It is so good to be home where I belong after a two-week absence, and the more trips I take away from this wonderful place, the more I believe it. On Saturday, March 17, Helen Marie (Simukka) Rangila, 85, long time Deep River resident, peacefully departed to finally meet Jesus whom she loved and worshipped her entire life. Born on September 18, 1932 at the Naselle home of her parents Matt and Ester Simukka, Helen attended school in Naselle and graduated from Naselle High School. The Naselle Comets boys basketball team ended their season with a 50-47 loss to Tacoma Baptist last Wednesday in the first round of the State 1B tournament in Spokane. She passed away on Friday, February 16 while vacationing with her husband in Hawaii. To the Eagle: After reading the reactions about the proposal to sell cannabis in the Rosburg Store, I'm very disappointed in the board of commissioners of Wahkiakum County Fire District No. 2's logic when they opposed the application. They stated that the store is near a park and a school bus stop, and felt commercial activity at the store could create dangerous traffic situations.
