Nordic American Voices, an oral history project, was launched by the Nordic Heritage Museum in 2009 with the mission to collect, preserve, and share the life histories of Nordic immigrants and their descendants in the Pacific Northwest. Since 2009 project volunteers have recorded the life stories of more than 350 Nordic-Americans in the region. The Tsuga Gallery, 70 Main St., in Cathlamet will celebrate its third anniversary on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Music will be provided by Fred Carter on the guitar. As I finish up this column, the temperature is climbing and it looks like a really warm day for this Tuesday. Personally, I prefer the cooler days, but as long as it doesn’t last too long, I guess I can tolerate it. I love the sudden warm showers, then sunshine and even some rainbows on occasion. It’s time to make hay though, guess I shouldn’t jinx the haymakers. Fourth of July is tomorrow (Friday), and hopefully many will be celebrating with family and friends. Frederick Francis Koontz, age 67, a resident of Aberdeen, died on June 7, 2014, in Taholah, Washington. Freddie was born on March 7, 1947, in Astoria, Oregon to Paul Ellison, Sr. and Anna Marie (Elliott) Koontz. He graduated from Naselle High School in 1965. Xie Fen from China has been awarded a fellowship from the U.S. Department of State to participate in the 2014 Teachers of Critical Languages Program (TCLP). She will teach Chinese for a full academic year at Naselle/Grays River School.
